![]() You might start with a circle, add anchors at the top and bottom and pull them inwards to get the classic shape. So let's say you're building an apple shape from scratch. No reason to be embarrassed dude! Not everyone does the same stuff with any programs. Regarding compatibility, I think you can export them to PDF and import them in Designer, the question is what tools have you used to create those files and if they're going to be supported in Designer. Also, I think Affinity tools feel more intuitive for me. Regarding the learning curve, there's obviously some differences, but being already familiar with Illustrator and Photoshop is going to make super easy. So the real question is if all those things that make Photoshop and Illustrator superior are worth paying the suscription. If you only do light retouching, Affinity Photo will sufice, but not trying to imply it's a limited program. I think the same goes for Photoshop vs Affinity Photo. Obviously Illustrator is still a more sophisticated tool, but for me there's no compromise as I don't do full on illustration hence I don't need all the bells and whistles Illustrator has. I mainly use Designer and it has everything I need plus some little nice details that Illustrator lacks. I'm a full time designer and I can't be any happier about switching, which happened a couple of years ago. But I hope I gave you some insights on how to proceed with changing tools.īased on the description you give, I have the impression you do light stuff. Sorry if I can’t really answer your specific V2 query. Take advantage of the trial, watch selected Affinity videos that will relate on how you work. They have various smart selection tools too but I haven’t compared them recently with Photoshop. ![]() Need to invest more time on Affinity Photo before you can totally move in. Your usual keyboard shortcuts won’t work. You’ll have a bit of difficulty with Affinity Photo since workflow is totally different based on my experience of using it for two decades. I’m using AD exclusively now because performance is better and buttery smooth. Your shape builders will be converted into compound paths (not sure in v2 since they have a similar feature). Your experience can vary depending on the complexity of your work like gradient mesh (AD doesn’t have those). I’ve used Affinity Designer extensively for almost 5 years for personal and paid projects and it can open AI files. I have more than two decades of professional work using Adobe and I still do at work since it is provided. I haven’t really tried version 2 yet but bought it at launch. I appreciate any help and advice you guys can give me □Įdit: u/SimilarToed pointed out the 30 day free trial to me, so I will be giving that a go, but I still appreciate your feedback as well :) (I will need to still use a lot of my old illustrator files, and I am scared of basically losing them all if I can’t open them in illustrator anymore)

There are no complicated bonuses to figure out outside of timing when to trigger multiball, but that can be said for every table. This is the most basic table and is meant for beginners in the game. While I enjoy Elf, it is both my least favorite of the movies AND the tables. On the next roll, if the roll is higher than the increasing requirement based on the dare selected, you can score bonus points (no, you cannot nudge to improve your roll). Once you complete the set, you pick Single, Double, or Triple Dog Dare. Obviously, these sets cover famous scenes from the movie, like the decoder ring, the leg lamp, and the BB gun (these grant one-time double-score opportunities and are fun to try to time).įinally, the DARE set allows you to gamble points. You can also complete it at end game by having the last roll be less than or equal to the number of targets, but that’s not as cool. If you complete all 8 before the end of the game, you get a 25-point bonus. Each time one is completed, you mark it off. There are 8 different sets that can be completed. I can’t unsee the misalignment (also, my reflection in the pinball). Unfortunately, at least for my copy, the table does not line up perfectly with the backglass, making me want to shoot my eye out….sorry. The backglass is more active as it includes both the Santa Visit bumpers as well as the tracker for your Air Rifle bonus. The best Christmas movie of the bunch however, is only the second-best table. Trying to complete the BOSS set before another pair of doubles show up, potentially resetting the bonus back to 1 point, can be fun/infuriating. I also love the tie-in to Cousin Eddie’s explosion that allows you to take an immediate double-score bonus, up to three times a game, for completing the GAS set.įinally, I really enjoyed the Boss Bonus which, instead of being tied to your choices, increases every time doubles are rolled. Unlike the other two tables, the multiball in Christmas Vacation is triggered by completing the SQUIRREL set, which can be triggered multiple times in a game, instead of via one-time bonuses. ![]() Because you only have one ball, timing when to score your lights (tracked on the backglass and erased once scored) versus building up the bonus is crucial.Īnother way to score points is through the multiball bonus. Just like in the movie, the goal is to put so many lights on your house that you cause a rolling brownout. ![]() The primary way to score big points is by scoring the light bonus. Potentially useful, but not particularly pleasant for a beginner to use.įor more general desktop use, I found a tool called vym, short for “view your mind”. But I kept wondering if there was something in the software I was missing, as finding features was very much a case of click and hope. After a little bit of practice I managed to get a basic hierarchical mind-map going. Moving on, there’s a stand-alone application written especially for KDE called Semantik (previously known as Kdissert), which works but also lacks any good documentation. A bug or just lack of understanding of the software? In either case, not helpul. I could figure out how to link images on the whiteboard to text boxes, but the same technique wouldn’t allow me to link text box to text box. Unfortunately it’s poorly documented and not at all well maintained. The KDE-native office suite Calligra has a whiteboard-like software tool called Braindump, which is described as “a tool to dump and organize the content of your brain”. So I’ve explored a few other options, particularly those that would work in a KDE desktop. However, it’s Java-based, which isn’t my favourite way of running software. The current standard appears to be freemind. The software options for Linux are somewhat….limited. While I have access to Windows OS at uni, my main laptop only runs a version of Linux (the distro is Kubuntu for those interested, though I may switch should I find the time to do that complete Linux reinstall in order to remove some accumulated cruft). Since I can’t draw free-hand – at all – I’ve been hunting down software that could assist me with this. The idea is to think in more non-linear way. ![]() Exporting to ascii creates a sort of Table of Contents of your mind map - something that could actually come in handy. One of my associate supervisors suggested that I draw up some mind maps to assist with planning what I want to do with my thesis. Finally, when you have finished your map, you can save the map or export it to a few different type of formats (XHTML, ascii, OpenOffice, CSV, Taskjuggler, LaTeX, and more). You can continue doing this until you have all of the branches necessary to map your mind. If you still have the parent selected and you click the "Add branch." button again another branch is added to the parent. When you click the "Add branch." button the child is automatically added with a branch connecting it to the parent. Like in other similar solutions, you first add a parent of your mind map and then add branches and children to this. VYM, the new open source tool is available for Linux, Mac, and Windows. And once you’ve finished, the map may be shared as an image, an HTML page, via Flash and more. The program can be extended with scripts and some interesting addons. Freeplane goes further and provides smart tools to help you build better maps. However PhraseExpress is designed with the end user experience in mind: you will rarely, if ever, find it slowing you down and it definitely increases productivity: I have always dreaded using a T9 like app on my computer because most of them tend to be annoying and get in the way more than help. The main attraction of PhraseExpress revolve around making it easy for you reuse frequent phrases when PhraseExpress detects you typing a phrase you use frequently, you can auto-complete it in one click/keypress (by default the keypress is set to be “Tab” but you can change it) instead of having to type the whole sentence. You can optionally make PhraseExpress purify the text also. Text Snippets – you can store short text snippets, such as an e-mail signature, famous quotes, or form filling information, into PhraseExpress and paste them back easily whenever you want.Only text is monitored and stored by the Clipboard Manager. Program Launcher – PhraseExpress allows you to create text shortcuts which can launch programs/websites/open files/open folders when used. The text in the snippets can be fully formatted. To get a better understanding of the features I just mentioned watch this short demo video (by the developer): You can assign hotkeys and/or text shortcuts to active/use any of the features mentioned: The usage of PhraseExpress is not limited to what I just described PhraseExpress can be used in many more clever ways. To make it easy on new users, PhraseExpress has the ability to import phrases/relevant data from programs such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, AutoHotKey, and GhostTyper. PhraseExpress even has a standalone “PhraseExpress Importer” which can turn a list of text into PhraseExpress compatible entries. The best part about PhraseExpress is it is not limited to working on a few programs on your computer PhraseExpress is an independent program which works with most, if not all, programs which involve text and typing. However take note of one thing: PhraseExpress conflicts with KeyScrambler. This is not really PhraseExpress’s fault because the job of KeyScrambler is to make sure keyloggers are unable to log keys PhraseExpress just comes in just collateral damage. While your computer will not crash if you run KeyScrambler and PhraseExpress together, you will notice how PhraseExpress will never give you proper word/phrase suggestions or properly learn words/phrases for/from programs that use KeyScrambler (because KeyScrambler, literally, scrambles the keys so no other program can read it properly). On that same note, there are two handy features of PhraseExpress which I feel are a little bit hidden from plain sight so users may not know they exist: You will, however, still be able to use the PhraseExpress features that work via hotkeys. ![]() In November 2003, Guano Apes released the album Live, which was recorded during a concert in Cologne earlier that same year.
